As soon as I my granddaughter was doing well on her own and I returned to San Antonio, I took my Shih Tzu to see his ophthalmologist. I feel so very lucky to have contacted them because of the wonderful treatment we got. Not only did they remove the staples from his bladder incision, the vet examined his eye and prescribed several different meds to use until we could get him back home to see his ophthalmologist. Unfortunately, the anesthesia from his bladder surgery caused his eye to become extremely dry and the irritation from the scar from a previous eye surgery caused so much inflammation his eye was at risk of developing massive corneal ulcers. Shih Tzu are known to have eye problems and mine has had extreme dry eye syndrome since he was a pup. When I took him back, the swelling had gone down and they removed his staples. I took him in and they examined him and gave me an anti-inflammatory prescription to give him and made an appointment for a follow-up. Four days before I was to take him in to have the staples removed I noticed his abdomen looked very swollen so I called and asked if I could bring him in immediately. His staples needed to be removed on August 20th but I didnt want to drive all the way back to San Antonio if I didnt have to so I called After Hours Veterinary Services and they said they would remove his staples so I made the appointment.
